Life in Grooveland -The Hymnal is a new kind of instrumental album featuring traditional hymns scored with the pulse of world rhythms. Produced and arranged by Nashville session drummer/percussionist Justin Amaral, The Hymnal features 10 duets led by Music City’s most brilliant and original instrumentalists like Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews, Bela Fleck), Fats Kaplin (Mitski, Jack White), Paul Niehaus (Lambchop), and Billy Contreras (Ricky Skaggs), all backed by Justin’s sublime—and at times explosive--drumming. Taking a “painting with layers” approach, Justin scores each hymn with a unique rhythmic foundation, creating a lush, multi- dimensional landscape for his musical partners to shine. These timeless, hymnal melodies now sound both ancient and struck anew as the listener travels through a spiritual grooveland.
